Since 2003 Palatinate Voices has frequently given concerts accompanied by Durham Baroque, a flexible professional period-instrument ensemble made up of players from Durham and across the North-East of England, directed by Keith Wright.
Performances with Palatinate Voices have ranged from Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri, with just two violins and continuo, through performances of Charpentier's Messe de minuit (strings and recorders), Haydn's Nelson Mass (strings, trumpets and timpani) up to the sizeable Baroque orchestra (with trumpets, drums, flutes, oboes, horn and bassoon) required for Bach's B-Minor Mass. In addition, with Durham Cathedral Choir and Durham Cathedral Consort of Singers, the orchestra has twice performed Handel's Messiah.
The orchestra is always keen to discuss new ventures; they can be contacted directly at durhambaroque@hotmail.co.uk
Here are some of the players, pictured at their performance of Bach's B-minor Mass: from top to bottom, Harriet Gilfillan (bassoon), Helen Shillito (horn), Mary Tyers (flute), Noel Broome (violin), Mike Walton (trumpet), Mike Walton & Tom Glendinning (trumpets), Heather Foxwell (oboe), and Naomi Barker (flute) & Elizabeth Ferguson (oboe).
